The Pentax Papilio III 8.5×21 WR binoculars allow for close-up observation of animals in their natural habitats, as well as exhibits in museums and art galleries. This feature expands the binoculars’ versatility beyond their usual applications, such as birdwatching and sports viewing. Thanks to the convergence compensation mechanism developed by Pentax, this latest Papilio series allows users to observe subjects from a minimum focusing distance of 50 centimeters.

The Papilio binoculars are the first of their kind to feature a reliable waterproof design for use in the rain and other environments where water splashes may occur. This makes them versatile and suitable for use in a wide range of environments under various weather conditions. This model is also ideal for everyday uses such as birdwatching, hiking, concerts, and sporting events. The Papilio III WR is the first model in the Papilio series with a waterproof design that minimizes the ingress of water and moisture into the interior, making it an exceptionally reliable observation tool in rain and fog, as well as in places where water splashes may occur. The eyepieces and front lens surfaces are coated with a repellent coating to minimize dust buildup and smudges.

All optical elements of the Papilio III WR are fully multi-coated to ensure optimal image performance and minimize unwanted reflections. The combination of aspheric optical elements and prisms made of high-refractive-index BaK4 glass ensures a sharp, clear, and distortion-free image, even at the edges of the field of view.

The latest high-performance HD coating* has been applied to some of the optical elements, which are already fully multi-coated. Compared to conventional multi-coatings, this provides higher transmittance with lower reflection. As a result, the Papilio III WR delivers exceptionally clear, high-contrast images even under challenging conditions, such as backlighting. *HD stands for High Definition. Long Eye Relief The long eye relief of 15 mm on this model also allows eyeglass wearers to view the entire field of view clearly and comfortably.
