Description

With the Böker Bronco 3V TPE knife, we set ambitious goals for ourselves. It must meet the latest technical standards and offer optimal functionality for today’s needs. To this end, it must have the following features: 1) Versatile and optimal usability for all professional outdoor users, such as bushcrafters, campcrafters, survival enthusiasts, hikers, hunters, SAR teams, and others. 2) A blade made of CPM steel representing the highest level of metallurgical craftsmanship. 3) A handle that fits comfortably in the hand even during prolonged use, fully wraps around the finger at all points, and does not dissipate heat from the hand when it is cold. 4) A high-quality leather sheath protects the knife from loss and damage, features a slot for a magnesium fire starter, and comes equipped with one. 5) 100% manufactured in Solingen, Germany.

We were able to meet these ambitious requirements in the following way: CPM-3V was developed by Crucible Industries LLC-the specialist and global market leader in powder metallurgy steel-to provide unparalleled resistance to impact loads, fracture resistance, and phenomenal edge retention at a hardness of 61±1 HRC. These properties of the powder metallurgy carbon steel are achieved through a precisely controlled chromium content of 7.5%. This allows for the beneficial properties of the alloying element Cr-such as increased wear resistance-to be utilized while maintaining a fine microstructure. The versatile blade with a wide bevel is the hunter’s preferred choice for both large small game, and is equally suitable for delicate tasks, such as whittling a stick, as well as for rougher tasks, such as splitting wood. The blade is continuous and extends a few millimeters beyond the end of the handle. This ensures maximum stability, and the blade can withstand even strong blows from a log or other object. The back of the blade forms sharp 90° edges on both sides to produce sparks from a magnesium striker. TPE-thermoplastic elastomer-was chosen as the material for the handle, which completely encases the metal and has a texture that provides a good grip in any direction of force. TPE is a durable, elastic, non-slip material with low thermal conductivity. Consequently, the knife sits securely in the hand under all weather and working conditions and does not lose its grip in wet or cold conditions. Compared to conventional elastomers, TPE also has the advantage of reducing environmental impact during production, as the process is purely physical and does not require a long and energy-intensive vulcanization process. The knife is equipped with a leather sheath that provides a deep and secure fit for the knife. This ensures the knife is protected as effectively as possible against both loss and damage while being carried, without the need for a breakable lock that hinders quick access. The adjustable lanyard allows for either a high carry position on the belt or a low carry position below the belt. In addition, the knife is equipped with a 9.3 cm magnesium fire starter (Swedish FireSteel Bio Army Slatyblack) from market leader Light My Fire, which is housed in a wide, snug-fitting leather loop, firmly integrated into the sheath.
