The Boker Manufaktur Solingen Naturensöhne MK. I CPM-3V TPE knife is a small bushcraft knife. Gerrit and Andy, better known as “Naturensöhne” (Sons of Nature), inspire more than 490,000 followers on their YouTube channel with their entertaining content on bushcraft, camping, hiking, and gear testing. More than two years ago, we began working with the two Berliners on the concept for their very own Naturensöhne knife. Thanks to their nomination for the third episode of the successful YouTube series 7 vs. Wild, in which seven teams must survive in the wild with self-selected pieces of gear, the requirements for our joint project became even more challenging. Since all the equipment had to fit inside a 1-liter Nalgene bottle, we had to completely rethink the dimensions of a sturdy outdoor knife. The result is the Naturensöhne MK. I knife: a special version of our successful Böker Bronco outdoor/survival model. While the full-size handle securely wraps around the full tang and ensures the usual excellent hand position and grip, the blade offers exactly what is expected of the most important tool during uncompromising outdoor use in 14-day Canada: Exceptional edge retention, impact resistance, fracture toughness, and resistance to chipping. This is made possible not only by the CPM 3V powder-metallurgy steel used for the blades, but also by the attractive, high-quality Hardur coating, which is used exclusively for high-quality cutting and piercing tools. The Hardur coating, approximately 5 μm thick, significantly extends the blade’s service life and also provides a low-friction surface. As enthusiasts of true Scandinavian style, the choice of blade grind was a no-brainer for Sons of Nature. The advantages are obvious: the exceptionally sharp bevel requires no secondary sharpening. Especially when splitting wood, the Scandi grind demonstrates excellent splitting properties and a high degree of stability, as the full thickness of the blade is maintained over approximately two-thirds of its height. The resulting greater blade weight also provides more cutting mass than with flat grinding. The handle is made of thermoplastic TPE. It is indestructible and, in addition to providing a perfect grip, ensures the desired safety when working in both dry and wet conditions. This premium-quality knife is complemented by a compact Kydex sheath, which-thanks to the included Ulticlip-ensures that this essential tool remains undamaged. Entirely manufactured at the Boker factory in Solingen.
