Description

The Boker Solingen 1969 Mach-1 Damast knife is inspired by the World War II fighter plane, the P-51 Mustang. Ford developed its own Mustang in the early 1960s and launched it in April 1964. As a compact sports coupe, this affordable “pony car”-adorned with the iconic galloping horse emblem on the radiator grille-appealed primarily to a younger clientele. To counter the powerful competition from Dodge, Pontiac, and Chevrolet, Ford made its mark in the league of powerful muscle cars with the Mustang Mach-1. The first-generation Mach-1 from 1969 was available only as a fastback and featured a number of visual and functional differences from the standard model: sport suspension, matte-black racing stripes on the hood, chrome exhaust tips and fuel cap, front hood pins, front and rear spoilers, and a luxurious interior. Over the years, the Mustang has become the epitome of the muscle car and now continues that legacy in its 7th generation. Boker draws inspiration from the car’s unique design and makes the legend even more tangible in the eponymous 1969 Mach-1 Damast. Parts of the wheel hub, strut, and suspension were used to create the delicate, 84-layer Damascus blade, which was hand-forged by Chad Nichols in a Wavepool pattern. The blade, featuring ball bearings and its distinctive ricasso, opens smoothly with the help of a removable thumb stud. The finger grooves in the handle, crafted from lightweight, high-strength aluminum, are reminiscent of the wings of a powerful car, while the gold inlay on the front bolster of the handle echoes the side trim of the door and body. The handle’s Silver Jade color strikingly emphasizes the pocket knife’s sporty look. The sloping rear section of the handle is nostalgically modeled after the contours of a fastback body, while the detailed hinge screw makes the forward movement of the wheels palpable. Straight-lined and angular, the stainless steel clip-milled from a solid block-is reminiscent of the door handles on a Ford Mustang. Handcrafted at the Boker factory in Solingen.
