The Fallkniven Phantom Anniversary Elmax Desert Ironwood knife is not only a good-looking folding knife, but it also has the right proportions between the handle and the blade, and, of course, it features a liner-lock blade lock. For the blade, we use exceptionally high-quality Swedish powder steel (Elmax from Uddeholm), which we’ve given a raised edge for optimal performance. The side scales of the handle are made from sustainably harvested desert ironwood from the southwestern United States-a very special type of wood because it doesn’t float! Its density is 1.2 kg/dm3, which also ensures a strong and durable material for the handle. Like anything else you use, you need to put some effort into caring for your folding knife. Of course, it’s essential that the blade is always very sharp; a dull blade can slip and cause injury. In addition, it’s best to keep your folding knife dry and clean, which means we DO NOT recommend using oil or grease around the blade pivot. It can also be adjusted; if you want to adjust the blade’s spring tension, be sure to add a little thread sealant to prevent the T10 nut from coming loose on its own. Bolts, spacers, and other parts are available as replacement parts if lost.

A few words about the design-as you can see, this is a fairly simple design in which we followed the three Fs-a formula over 100 years old that stands for “form follows function,” a true Scandinavian approach to well-made knives. We’re not fans of extra details and frills; instead, we prefer to design the knife so well that you won’t yearn for embellishments, but will be drawn to handling it because of its classic, clean lines. In the end, we decided to add a round silver medallion made of nickel, featuring three crowns-the small Swedish national coat of arms. Fällkniven AB has permission from the Swedish Royal Herald to use the Three Crowns, and we incorporate this feature into the knives into which we put a little extra effort. Since 1999, the company has also been a supplier to the Royal Court of Sweden, which allows us to use the Greater National Coat of Arms-His Majesty the King’s personal coat of arms-in our marketing. Therefore, in 2024, we are celebrating not only 40 years in knife manufacturing but also 25 years as a supplier to the Royal Court, under the same ownership since our founding in 1984.
