The Kai Strop set is used for polishing and sharpening; it’s a good alternative to polishing stones. It is very easy to use and delivers first-class results; knives treated with it become razor-sharp again. The leather strop is made of beech wood and covered on both sides with high-quality Russian leather. The chromium oxide polishing cream has an extremely fine grain size, which is particularly gentle on the knives. A prerequisite for the strap’s effectiveness is that the blade be perfectly sharpened, for example with a whetstone. Impregnate the leather strap with the polishing paste, apply it evenly with your fingertips, and massage it in. Let the polishing paste soak in briefly, then remove any excess paste with a kitchen towel. Most belts are pre-treated and only require this step again when the belt’s polishing effectiveness diminishes. To polish the cutting edge, use the same angle as when sharpening on a whetstone (15/20 degrees) and drag the knife several times across the leather in a direction opposite the cutting direction, applying light pressure. Repeat the process on the other side of the blade; each side of the blade should be drawn across the leather a total of 10 to 12 times.
