The NANIWA Super Stone water-based sharpening stone is bonded with synthetic resin. Naniwa handles the production of this bonding agent in-house, perfectly matched to the grit size of the sharpening stone. Super Stones are hard, wear slowly, and have a high concentration of abrasive particles-a splash-resistant stone that creates an unbeatable polished edge on steel. After sharpening , it is important to dry the Super Stones properly and let them dry completely at room temperature. The sharpening stones are available in various grit sizes. The higher the number, the finer the grit. The finer the grit, the sharper the results. You start the sharpening process with a coarse grit, then continue with a finer grit.

Guidelines for choosing the right sharpening stone

Grit 200 to 600: great for restoring the edge of dull knives

Grit 800 to 1000: great for sharpening knives that are still in good condition

Grit 2000 to 3000: for a sharper result than most knives delivered to your doorstep

Grit 5,000 to 12,000: for razor-sharp knives

Soaking professional whetstones is not recommended. We recommend keeping a spray bottle handy to keep the stones wet while you’re sharpening.
