Helikon – tex SQUALL HARDSHELL JACKET TORRENTSTRETCH TAIGA GREEN
Description
The Helikon-Tex SQUALL HARDSHELL JACKET TORRENTSTRETCH complements the Helikon-Tex lineup with the most modern outer layer. What is the difference between a softshell and a hardshell? A softshell jacket (e.g., the Blizzard Jacket) is a lightweight layer that protects against light wind and rain, mainly thanks to its DWR coating. A hardshell is a more durable layer designed to provide much better water resistance while maintaining good breathability. Both of these features are combined in the Squall Jacket. Water resistance and breathability are provided by TorrentStretch-a 3L (three-layer) laminate developed by the experts at Helikon-Tex. Between the more durable outer layer and the integrated lining is a microporous membrane. Its pore size prevents water from penetrating inside the jacket. At the same time, the pores are large enough to effectively wick moisture generated by the body (in the form of water vapor) away to the outside. Three layers, laminated together, form the TorrentStretch membrane. The Hardshell Squall is a membrane jacket with excellent waterproof performance: a 30,000 mm water column rating. The Squall is a full-featured rain jacket with taped seams and a two-way adjustable hood with a high collar. Additional protection against moisture is provided by waterproof YKK® AquaGuard zippers, and it features a PFC-free DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish. The Squall hardshell is designed so that an additional insulating layer (e.g., the Wolfhound Hoodie Jacket) can be worn underneath it in the winter. As a result, the hardshell can be worn as a standalone jacket in the spring and as an outer layer for winter expeditions. It features three pockets, two of which are positioned lower than on the men’s model for greater comfort. The third pocket is an interior pocket for documents or a phone. The hook on the left shoulder makes it easy to personalize. Additionally, the Squall Jacket takes up very little space when folded. When rolled up, it fits inside the hood.
The membrane jacket must be maintained according to the instructions to preserve its waterproofing and breathability. To reinforce these properties, it’s worth regularly renewing the water-repellent coating with a DWR treatment.
