The TRAMONTANE jacket is an ultra-lightweight, windproof layer. It was designed to bridge the gap between the Blizzard softshell and the Windrunner jacket in the Helikon-Tex lineup. The TRAMONTANE is made from very lightweight yet durable WindPack® Nylon. This is a quick-drying, non-absorbent fabric that’s additionally treated with a DWR (Durable Water Repellency) finish, so it will keep out light rain or snow. Even if it gets wet, the Tramontane jacket dries very quickly. It also zips all the way down, ensuring good ventilation. On the other hand, the drawcord at the bottom of the jacket, the elastic cuffs, and the adjustable hood allow you to trap heat inside if necessary. Weighing just 120 g, it packs into a pocket sewn onto the chest (a so-called “self-pack”) and can be compressed to the size of a soda can. Stored this way, it can even fit into a pants pocket. In the summer, when it gets cooler, it works as a standalone protective layer over a T-shirt-for example, as a hiking jacket. The TRAMONTANE jacket’s light weight is noticeable when worn-it protects against the wind while not restricting movement; you might even forget you’re wearing it. During colder periods, it pairs perfectly with a fleece or combat shirt from the Patrol line. The windproof jackets in Helikon-Tex’s lineup are named after different types of wind. The TRAMONTANE jacket takes its name from the cool north or northeast wind found in the Mediterranean Sea.
