The Work Sharp Ken Onion Edition Elite Mk2 Electric Knife Sharpener was designed by Ken Onion and developed by Work Sharp. This sharpener offers both guided and freehand sharpening of all edges at virtually any angle. With 3 primary sharpening methods, we’ve combined several large, noisy professional-grade sharpening machines into a single, versatile tabletop tool. Industry-first digital speed control buttons give you complete and repeatable control over the speed and continuous operation of the sharpener. Simply increase or decrease the motor speed with the push of a button. Low speeds for honing, high speeds for grinding. The top “Continuous Mode” button allows you to keep the sharpener running without having to hold it in your hands, while the lower amber switch allows you to quickly cut off the power without having to reach for the trigger at the bottom.

Sharpening Method 1 starts with the cartridge. The included sharpening cartridge holds a full range of flexible belts, ranging from 120 coarse to 6000 ultra-fine. The two angle guides are equipped with leather and a front edge support to ensure consistent angles regardless of the length of the blade or sword. These guides can be adjusted from 15° to 30° by turning the clicks on the angle disc. Adjustment in 0.5° increments per click, with solid, tactile notches, allows for truly repeatable and precise sharpening. Sharpening Method 2. Pull up on the back of the cassette to remove the angle guides, then rotate the cassette forward and expose the entire side of the belt at a 45° angle. This angle, combined with our flexible belt technology, will allow for precise grinding even on the most unusual shapes and edges. Load the 120-grit belt, set the speed to 7, and you’ll have a handheld sander for quickly shaping metal and refining edges. Sharpening Method 3, the blade sharpening attachment, or BGA, as we call it. The BGA is included in the Ken Onion Elite kit or can be purchased separately if you already own the base Ken Onion model. The BGA features a full selection of 1×18″ flexible belts for cool, fast sharpening from a dull edge to a polished edge. This system is simple, straightforward, and powerful. It has two zero-angle reference platforms-one at the front and a second, height-adjustable one at the rear. The angle adjustment knob is located directly in front and precisely adjusts the angle between the two main clamping forces. Place the knife flat on the reference platform, then lift it toward the belt-and you’re done! You can now sharpen freely (like a pro) to your desired degree. Take sharpening adjustment one step further with the 3-way adjustable section. It allows you to control the amount of bevel you apply to your edges. Position 1 is for low-bevel edges, such as kitchen knives, while Position 3 is for high-bevel edges, such as axes and lawn mower blades.

All in all, this provides 3 completely different ways to sharpen using the Ken Onion Elite sharpening system. The sharpening cartridge offers angle and edge guides and 45° driven sharpening, as well as full-fledged freehand sharpening with protruding control using the BGA. Each has its time and place, and each is just as powerful as the next. If you’re in the mood to count, we’re not including the 90° flat grinding area at the back, the special scissors guide, or even the area for grinding loose blades-four, five, six… we’ll save those for another time.
